Best Practices for Creating Product Engagement Scores in Accoil

Creating your engagement score is the first step in your Accoil journey because everything depends on building a scoring model.
You’re in control of this model—you know your product best. But what’s the best way to set it up for solid results?
This article shares a few tips and best practices based on common questions.
How many events should I have in my engagement scoring model?
You’re probably tracking dozens of events, but only about 10–20 really matter. We’ve seen effective models with 5–7 events and some with more than 20. A good rule of thumb is 10–20.
Be careful: if you use only 1–3 events, you won’t get enough variety to rank users or accounts meaningfully.
How should I weigh each event?
Give your “power user” features the highest weight (7–10). These are rare but used by your most experienced users.
Common events—like login—get the lowest weight (1–3) or none at all.
Core features fall in the middle, with medium weights (4–6).
How can I spot missing events for my scoring model?
Accoil’s Events tab lets you see which unscored events drive the most engagement. A few days after you set up your score, toggle to “unscored events” and look for engaging actions to add.
How flexible is this score? Can I edit it later?
It’s easy to update and iterate your Accoil score. In your first few days, you’ll tweak it often. When you change weights, Accoil quickly refreshes all calculations—your data stays safe.
Can I score different user groups differently?
Yes. Accoil lets you create multiple scoring profiles. You might not need them right away, but they’re useful when different user groups use your product in unique ways. Trust your instincts on when to add profiles.
