How to Track Trial Account Activation with Accoil

The Accoil Team
If your SaaS offers a free trial, you know the activation phase is critical. It’s when users reach “first value.” Without this, they can’t judge if your product helps their business.
An activated account is one that has performed a set of actions leading to first value. This varies by product. For example, a project management app may require users to:
Create an account
Invite 2+ team members
Create a project
Upload 2+ files
Create 3+ calendar events
Create and complete 1+ tasks
When an account ticks all these boxes, it’s activated. These steps show they’ve tried your product’s core features.
In Accoil, you set your activation criteria and let Accoil handle the rest.
Step 1: Set activation criteria
Go to Account activation in Accoil and pick the events and traits that define first value.
Step 2: You’re done
There is no step 2. Accoil immediately calculates your Activation Rate.
Activation Rate
Activation Rate shows progress toward activation as a percentage. If an account meets 3 of 4 criteria, its rate is 75%. Accounts at 100% are activated. You’ll see this metric in Accoil and any tools you connect.
Where to find Activation Rate
You’ll spot Activation Rate on every account page and on the account overview. Use default segments for accounts at 100% or create your own segments.
You can also push Activation Rate to tools like Slack, Intercom and Salesforce. Get daily Slack alerts for new activations. In Intercom, view activated segments under Companies. In Salesforce, import them to help your sales team prioritise follow-up.
Why tracking trial activation matters
Trial accounts are at their most fragile stage. They’re new, unsure and need nurturing. How you support them now decides if they stick around. Tracking activation in Accoil gives you the insights to guide them.
